Representatives from Mary Queen of Peace Church in Mandeville and St. Margaret Mary School in Slidell will visit St. Benoit Dessources Catholic church in Haiti Feb. 23-28.
Mary Queen of Peace has recently partnered with St. Benoit.
The mission team will include Muguet Bolotte, chair of the Mary Queen of Peace’s Haiti Partnership Ministry; Teresian Sister Marina Aranzabal of Mary Queen of Peace; parishioner Andrew Worrell and pastoral council member Michael St. Germain; and Brandi Mire, a teacher at St. Margaret Mary School in Slidell.
The Haiti Partnership Ministry is asking for monetary donations to help cover the cost of items needed at St. Benoit, a parish with 5,000 parishioners and a 500-student school.
Monetary donations are requested due to strict airline and customs regulations regarding baggage. The mission team also wants to help the Haitian economy.
“We’re going to try to purchase as much as we can in Haiti by buying stuff that they sell,” trip spokeswoman Sarah Bonnette said.
Checks should be made payable to: Mary Queen of Peace, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471, with the memo “Haiti Mission Trip 2012.”
For details, email [email protected], or call Sister Marina at (985) 630-7130 or (985) 705-1846.
