Father James Wehner, rector-president of Notre Dame Seminary, will be the featured speaker at the fourth annual dinner of the Northshore chapter of the Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of New Orleans May 2 at Tchefuncte Country Club in Covington.
This year’s banquet will honor St. Joseph Abbey and Seminary College on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, said chapter chair, Guy Chiappetta. Benedictine Abbot Justin Brown will speak about the abbey’s spiritual and educational endeavors.
The Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of New Orleans serves as a means for the Catholic community to strategically give of their blessings to church parishes, schools, organizations and causes important to themselves and their families. The foundation oversees permanent funds established by many separate donors for the long-term, diverse charitable benefit of the archdiocese.
Last year, the Catholic Foundation raised $11.7 million to support the charitable, educational, and spiritual ministries of the archdiocese.
“The income from these funds is used for tuition assistance at Catholic elementary and secondary schools, operational and general support for specific parishes, scholarship funds, the support of archdiocesan special programs, or support for Notre Dame Seminary, St. Joseph Seminary or another Catholic university," said Charles Heim, executive director of the Catholic Foundation.
The dinner will begin with a social at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. and Father Wehner’s address. Entertainment will be provided by the St. Joseph Abbey Schola Cantorum.
