Franciscan Friar of the Renewal Andrew Apostoli will be a featured homilist at the Greater New Orleans Rosary Congress for Life, Reparation and Peace Oct. 1 at St. Benilde Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie.
Father Apostoli, who has spoken around the world, will lead off a week of liturgies and prayer that will conclude Oct. 7, the Feast of the Holy Rosary, at St. Benilde. This year’s Rosary Congress is dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Father Apostoli, who recently completed a book on Fatima, will deliver a spiritual reflection Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m. at Archbishop Rummel High School, and participants will process to St. Benilde Church for the opening Mass of the Rosary Congress at 4 p.m. Father Apostoli will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Those parking at St. Benilde may take a free shuttle to Rummel, beginning at 2 p.m.
The following is the schedule for the other Rosary Congress liturgies at St. Benilde:
➤ Oct. 2, Respect Life Sunday, Mass at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. (youth Mass). At 2 p.m., Father Apostoli will speak on Archbishop Fulton Sheen. The Youth Mass, celebrated by Dominican Father David Caron, will be preceded at 5:30 p.m. by musical praise from the St. Benilde choir.
➤ Oct. 3, noon Mass celebrated by Holy Cross Father Thomas Chambers. A Spanish Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. by Father Joseph Benson, pastor of Blessed Seelos Parish, with musical praise at 7 p.m. by the Blessed Seelos choir.
➤ Oct. 4, noon Mass celebrated by Father Quentin Moody, pastor of St. Augustine Parish. Archbishop Gregory Aymond will celebrate the 7:30 p.m. Mass to honor the family. Musical praise will begin at 7 p.m. by the St. Dominic Contemporaries.
➤ Oct. 5, noon Mass celebrated by Josephite Father Joseph Doyle. Msgr. Christopher Nalty, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, will celebrate a Mass for unity at 8 p.m., with music by the Divine Mercy choir. Musical praise will begin at 7:30 p.m. by the CCRNO choir. A Medjugorje Holy Hour will be led by Father Joseph Cazenavette at 9 p.m.
➤ Oct. 6, noon Mass celebrated by Father Ray Hymel. Father Pat Wattigny, pastor of St. Benilde, will celebrate a Latin Mass at 7:30 p.m. The St. Patrick Chorale will provide musical praise at 7 p.m. After Mass, there will be a candlelight eucharistic procession.
➤ Oct. 7, noon Mass by Father Robert Cooper, parochial vicar of St. Peter Parish in Covington. The final Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. by Father Kyle Dave, pastor of Sacred Heart, Lacombe, followed by a eucharistic healing service and benediction. Kitty Cleveland will lead musical praise at 7 p.m.
