Dr. Tim Burns, the former headmaster of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans from 2003-14, has been named interim head of school at Stuart Hall School for Boys.
A highly talented educational leader, Burns has wide-ranging experience heading independent schools, including serving as the headmaster of the Academy of the Sacred Heart. He has served as head of three schools and served as interim head of 11 other schools.
Burns began lending his expertise to a number of schools in transition more than 30 years ago, serving as interim or transition head of independent schools in New York, Illinois, Ohio, California, Missouri, Delaware and Washington. Throughout his career, Burns has developed wide-ranging expertise through his service to several different types of schools across the country. Burns and his wife Kathy have two daughters and four grandchildren.
Stuart Hall’s search committee and the board of trustees selected Burns unanimously out of a pool of highly qualified educators and school leaders. In the announcement to the Stuart Hall community, the board of trustees cited Burns’ experience serving as an interim head of several independent schools across the nation as a benefit to its boys, faculty and staff and school community while it moves forward in the search for a permanent head of school.
“I’ve had the opportunity to serve as an interim head for several schools across the country, and I am excited to be returning to New Orleans and serving at Stuart Hall in this capacity,” Burns said. “It is an honor and privilege to lead Stuart Hall into the new school year.
“I have known former head of school Kevin Avin for many years, both professionally and personally, and I look forward to working with him again and to getting to know the Stuart Hall community.”
