Dorothy Bailey will celebrate her 100th Birthday Nov. 1, 2019, at a luncheon at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans. A Catholic since birth, Bailey received her first Communion at the former St. Raymond Church on Paris Avenue, her confirmation and then was married to Norman Bailey Sr. at Corpus Christi on St. Bernard Avenue in New Orleans. She also has worshipped at Holy Ghost/St. Katharine Drexel and St. France de Sales Catholic Church parishes.
She has raised five children, all of whom have had successful careers and credit their mother for installing core values in their lives, including the importance of family, sharing, honesty, and giving back; accepting stumbling blocks as challenges and learning opportunities; integrity; accountability; and perseverance. They consider their mother a role model.
For many years, Bailey worked as an insurance agent for Rhodes Insurance, Co., and, later, at the New Orleans Council on Aging, where she became a staunch advocate for senior rights. Even after retirement, she continued to be an ambassador for our aging community. Now, as she nears her centennial celebration, she has become a role model for many others who aspire to be like her and to have the caliber of life that she has managed to live.
