Donut Man reminds kids: Don’t ‘glaze over’ at Mass!

“The Donut Man” – a.k.a., Rob Evans, a Catholic storyteller from Pennsylvania – brought his musical program defining the parts of the Mass to St. Ann Parish in Metairie on Oct. 14.

  

The Sunday afternoon event featured kid-friendly songs explaining holy water (which Jesus uses to wash us with “super soap”); the Sign of the Cross (which Evans calls a “supernatural hello” to God that connects the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit); the Penitential Rite (when we say we’re sorry to Jesus, even though he never turned away from us); the Offertory (which means more than putting money in the basket; “it’s my sacrifice, too.”); and the “Holy, Holy, Holy” (when we anticipate Jesus turning the bread and wine into “something super duper”). Evans uses donuts as a symbol of our earthly lives. “We all have a hole in the middle of our hearts, and only Jesus can fill that hole,” he said. (Photos by Beth Donze)
