From the balcony, Archbishop Gregory Aymond blessed St. Mary Dominican High School’s new Gayle and Tom Benson Science and Technology Complex on April 22.
The dedication culminated 14 months of construction of the $10 million, two-story, nearly 17,000-square-foot complex dedicated to the school’s STREAM initiative (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Math).
The new facility doubles Dominican’s science laboratory space. The building is designed to facilitate the exploration of the relationship between faith and reason by integrating the six study areas.
The facility is connected to St. Mary’s Hall and Cazale Hall, whose second-floor classrooms for science, physics and robotics also were renovated.
The new facility includes an adoration chapel, directly below the Disputatio Room, which is “a sign of the necessity for contemplative prayer to ready our hearts for the search for truth together through disputatio,” said Dr. Cynthia Thomas, Dominican’s president.
