Deacon Dwight Bernard Alexander died Aug. 22 after a long battle with dementia. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Leflore Alexander for 51 years, and they shared three children: Kenya, Dwight II and Kewana Alexander.
He also had 10 grandchildren: Darien, Darius, Corey, Kelsi, Dwight II, Brianna, Dawson, Alexis, Payton and Dorian.
He graduated with a degree in architectural engineering from Delgado Community College. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a licensed contractor and a member of local carpenters union 1846.
In 1993, he was ordained as a permanent deacon and served at St. Raymond Church, where he was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver’s 4th degree.
Deacon Alexander was preceded in death by his parents Namon and Dorothy Alexander, his brother Anthony Sr. (Denise), grandparents Obey and Elsie Murray, father-in-law William LeFlore and mother-in-law Leona Redden LeFlore.
He is survived by his stepmother Everdia Alexander, sisters Gwendolyn Doucet (Gratel), Marie and Kim Alexander, and brothers Evan and Kevin Alexander.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 2 at St. Raymond and St. Leo the Great Church. Interment was at Southeast Veterans Cemetery in Slidell
