Calling it “just like old times,” CYO basketball tournament director Armand Bertin announced that De La Salle will rejoin its other local Catholic school peers as a competitor in the 2013 tournament.
The Cavaliers will join Brother Martin, Holy Cross, Jesuit, Archbishop Rummel, Archbishop Shaw and St. Augustine of the re-assembled Catholic League.
Rounding out the 16-team tournament field are St. Paul’s, Archbishop Hannan, St. Thomas Aquinas, East Jefferson, Country Day, Hahnville, East St. John, Lusher and defending champion Newman.
“With the addition of De La Salle, Country Day and East Jefferson, I think we will have a very strong field this year,” Bertin said.
De La Salle, which was a mainstay in the tournament for nearly 40 years, dropped out following 2005. The coaching staff feels the team is ready to once again perform at a competitive level.
The tournament will take place in early December.
Bertin said the semifinal and championship games will be played at Holy Cross.
