Jesuit may have the deepest contingent of distance runners, but for overall excellence, Brother Martin is still the king of District 9-5A track and field.
With nine district titles over the past 16 years, the Crusaders outscored the Blue Jays and five other boys’ teams to place first and qualify 17 individuals in the upcoming Region III meet.
And once again, Mount Carmel claimed the girls’ team championship after a close duel with Dominican that ended with the Cubs winning by three points, 94-91.
Jesuit piled up 56 points by placing 1-2 in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs while also winning the 800-meter run and 4x800-meter relay, but couldn’t match the Crusaders’ depth of talent, which outscored Jesuit, 141-126.
Mount Carmel qualified 20 individuals and four relay teams for the regional meet.
Individually, Holy Cross junior Krosse Johnson won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay team. Jesuit’s Michael Vocke and Dominican’s Morgan Trauth won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter.
