St. Angela Merici Parish has compiled a list of commonly used funeral hymns. Liturgies celebrated in church have a greater variety of possibilities because the congregation has use of parish hymnals. Selections are needed for the processional/gathering; the presentation of the gifts; Communion; and the recessional. Often-used hymns include, but are not limited to:
Be Not Afraid
Here I Am, Lord
Amazing Grace
Eat This Bread
Alleluia! The Strife is O’er
Just a Closer Walk with Thee
We Have Been Told
The King of Love
On Eagle’s Wings
You Are Mine
How Great Thou Art
I Am the Bread of Life
Blest Are They
Eye Has Not Seen
You Are Near
Now Thank We All Our God
Liturgies celebrated in the funeral home draw musical selections from the “Order of Christian Funerals.” Often-used hymns include, but are not limited, to the following:
Be Not Afraid
Eat This Bread
On Eagle’s Wings
For All the Saints
Amazing Grace
Blest Are They
You Are Near
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
The processional, Communion and recessional hymns should be selected from the worship aid to which the congregation has access. A cantor solo is permitted during the presentation of the gifts. This selection may or may not be listed in the worship aid. Often-used hymns include, but are not limited, to the following:
Come to the Water
Like a Shepherd
Only in God
Take Lord, Receive
The Responsorial Psalm is chosen by the music minister; the “Ave Maria” may be sung as a prelude to the liturgy, but not during it.
