St. Scholastica Academy recently hosted one of my favorite nights of the year, the annual Father/Daughter night in the school’s gym. My dad and I go every year, and we have so much fun planning our costumes and getting ready for the event! The night features food, fun, music and lively costumes and decor. This year’s theme was “Santa’s Workshop,” and there was no shortage of Santas, elves, classic Christmas sweaters, presents and even a few wise men!
Walking into the event, we were greeted warmly with, “Welcome! The North Pole is this way!” The night opened with a speech and prayer presented by school principal, Mary Kathryn Villere and continued into the traditional speeches where seniors share the love they have for their fathers while expressing how much their dads will be missed in college.
Numerous seniors gave heartfelt and joke-filled tributes to their fathers with an abundance of tears and smiles.
Daphne Zimmer even performed an original song entitled “Superman” dedicated to all dads in attendance.
“It was nice spending time with my dad and being able to honor him with a speech to say how thankful I am for everything he does,” senior Lillian Gattuso said.
As the fathers and daughters ate a hearty barbecue dinner, festive music and a slide show of nostalgic pictures played in the background. I, personally, look forward to the annual event and enjoy the night out with my dad. Amid the busyness of high school, spending quality time with my parents is rare, and I savor every opportunity I have with both of them. The tradition remains special to St. Scholastica Academy’s students and their fathers.
