A crowd awaits Brother Martin’s Hunter Appleton, right, at the finish line of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic race on Oct. 13 at the City Park course. Appleton turned in a three-mile time of 14:52.61.
Brother Martin’s Hunter Appleton and Mary Nusloch of the Academy of the Sacred Heart have three things in common: they are both model students, they run like deer and focus on breaking records every time they answer the starter’s gun.
Just one month after recording personal bests at cross country meets in Baton Rouge, Appleton and Nusloch bested the individual competition at the Oct. 13 Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic at City Park.
Appleton finished the three-mile race in 14:52.61, just falling short of his personal record time of 14:34.78, set in a meet in Baton Rouge.
Nusloch’s winning time of 17:48.09 rewrote her own personal best for the third consecutive race. She won the St. Joseph’s Academy Invitational run on Sept. 29 in the time of 17:58.32.St. Paul’s was the team runner-up. Brother Martin and Sacred Heart finished third in team competition. The state championship meet is Nov. 12-13.
