Archbishop Gregory Aymond has appointed Charles W. Heim Jr. as interim executive director of the Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Heim has more than 37 years of development experience in the New Orleans area and serves as a consultant to nonprofits throughout the Southeast United States. He recently conducted the study and initial planning for the archdiocesan Development Implementation Team. A native of New Orleans, Heim is a former teacher, guidance counselor, coach and director of public relations at Jesuit High School. He has worked in fund-raising for 40 years.
Heim was the first director of development at Jesuit, directed the planned gifts program at Tulane University, inaugurated the development program at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.Va., and served for more than 25 years as vice president of the Ochsner Foundation.
He is a Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP) and has served as chairman of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), chairman of the board of trustees of the AHP Educational Foundation, and president of the New Orleans chapter and board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
A graduate of University of Southern Mississippi and Loyola University New Orleans, Heim is a member of St. Clement of Rome Parish. His volunteer service has included chairing the Archbishop Hannan High School board of directors and the Rozelle Award Committee Touchdown Club of New Orleans. He is a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation. Heim lectures on fund-raising methodologies and is a former adjunct professor of the University of New Orleans.
“It is a distinct honor to be invited to serve as interim executive director of the Catholic Foundation,” Heim said. “I am grateful to Archbishop Aymond and to Michael Nolan, president of the foundation, and his fellow officers for the faith and trust placed in me. My focus of service will be to work throughout the Catholic community to ensure the future financial security of the parishes, schools, agencies and activities of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.”
“The Catholic Foundation is very fortunate to have someone with Mr. Heim’s experience and background in an important leadership role,” Nolan said. “Since his appointment, he has begun working very hard to foster the growth of the foundation in order to serve the important needs of the archdiocese.”
