VINCENTIAN PRIESTS CELEBRATION, Sept. 27, 5 p.m. Mass, followed by a reception. St. Joseph Church, 1802 Tulane Ave., New Orleans. Clergy religious and laity invited to celebrate 200th anniversary of arrival of the Congregation of the Mission in the U.S. in Baltimore. A booklet describing the history of Vincentian priests and brothers in our province, that included New Orleans from 1818 to the present, given out. The Vincentians are establishing a Xavier University scholarship fund for students interested in promoting peace and justice after graduation. The New Orleans Vincentians at DePaul Residence and at St. Joseph Church will contribute an initial $100,000 with a $200,000 goal by donations.

ST. JOSEPH ABBEY, a free performance of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s masterpiece, “Stabat Mater,” Oct. 1, 2 p.m., St. Joseph Abbey Church, 75376 River Road, Covington. Performers are Jennifer Hawkins, soprano; Samantha Becnel, alto; Paul Christian, piano; Kerry Lewis, bass; Matt Keegan, drums; and Ed Melara, engineer. Christian’s extensive studies of the Neapolitan School led him to the “Stabat Mater.” This performance hopes to demonstrate improvisational aspects of 18th century music and to bring a more modern vocal approach to the piece.
