PROJECT LAZARUS, annual Bon Appetit fund-raiser to help raise needed dollars to run its programs for people living with HIV/AIDS. Participants host a party Sept. 29 for and/or with friends and family and ask for donations in any amount. At 9:30 p.m., all hosts and guests are invited to an after-party at a private home with desserts, champagne and cocktails. After-party admission for those not hosting or attending a party is $50. DEBORAH AUGUSTINE ELAM, Ursuline Academy Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and 1979 graduate, was honored at the National Urban League’s Women of Power Awards Luncheon on July 28 in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Elam, the vice president and chief diversity officer of General Electric (GE), was one of 11 women chosen to receive the Women of Power award. The award is given to those who have demonstrated high levels of success and accomplishment in business, government, justice, journalism, sports and the arts. The luncheon was held in conjunction with the 2012 National Urban League Conference. Elam also holds leadership roles in GE’s African American Forum and the GE Women’s Network. She is a member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the National Black MBA Association and is on the Board of Advisors of Working Mother Magazine’s Multicultural Women. She is also a member of The Links, Incorporated; National Committee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
