CABRINI HIGH, Jo’Leigh Sloan Monteverde, class of 1972, was named 2019 Alumna of the Year. This annual award is given to an alumna who has exemplified the teachings of Mother Cabrini and has shown dedication to Christianity through interaction with her family, the Cabrini community and general community. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Louisiana State University of New Orleans, certification in deaf education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College (now the University of Holy Cross), a master’s in special education in deaf education from LSUNO (now University of New Orleans) and has served special students for most of her 30-plus years as an educator in New Orleans Public Schools. She has three sons, one granddaughter, is an active member of St. Pius X Church, volunteers at Cabrini and is an Alumnae Association Board member, a class agent for class of 1972 since 2008 and instrumental in organizing her class’ 40-and 45-year reunions.
