GOYA FOODS donated 100,000 pounds of Goya products to victims of Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana. The donation will be distributed by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against hunger in south Louisiana.
PROJECT LAZARUS, executive director Kim Moss was named one of New Orleans Magazine’s “People to Watch in 2012” in the magazine’s September 2012 issue. This honor recognizes New Orleans-based individuals passionate about a particular mission. These individuals are highlighted as leaders in their profession; proven achievers based on past accomplishments and overall experience. Moss has 27 years experience working with organizations that serve people living with HIV/AIDS and advocating for their rights and well-being through housing and supportive services.
MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY, students and faculty collected 155 boxes of nonperishables, weighing 25 pounds a box, to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana recover after Hurricane Isaac.
ARCHBISHOP CHAPELLE, donated $446.85 to Council of Catholic School Cooperative Clubs’ Clothe- a-Child drive. Mike and Kim Sorensen received the Archbishop Chapelle High School Deus Providebit Award for their years of volunteer service to Chapelle. Their three daughters are Chapelle graduates Megan Sorensen Scandurro ’06, Kortney ’08 and Mikella ’12.
CABRINI HIGH SCHOOL, named five New Orleanians to its Board of Trustees: Thomas J. Long, chairman; Michael T. Johnson, vice chairman; S. Kyle Waters, treasurer; Arlinda P. Westbrook, secretary; Florence O. Wingerter, assistant secretary. Other board members are: Roland Borey, Sister Eileen Currie, Dellona Davis, Charles DiGange, Sister Catherine Garry, Leon Grabert Jr., Pamela Roman Mascari, Eugene F. McCormick Jr., Jesuit Father Anthony McGinn and Albert Pappalardo. Members of the Board of Trustees of Cabrini High school serve as the ultimate fiduciaries of the school in their oversight of institutional affairs.
SECOND HARVEST Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, has hired Paige Vance as community outreach manager, coordinating outreach between the food bank and the more than 240-member agencies across south Louisiana. Scott Bernier is director of business operations overseeing operations, logistics and procurement. Second Harvest promoted two from within: Annette LeBlanc from vice president/chief operations officer to vice president/chief administrative officer; Mamie Jackson, from warehouse manager to operations manager.
