SACRED RELICS OF THE SAINTS: TREASURES OF THE CHURCH, June 13, 6:30 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc, LaPlace. A teaching and exposition of more than 150 sacred relics with Father Carlos Martins, a Vatican-appointed expert on relics. Among the treasures – some as old as 2,000 years – will be relics of St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska and a portion of the veil of Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Attendees can examine and venerate each relic and can bring their own articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members to touch the reliquaries as a means of intercession. 529 W. 5th St., LaPlace. SCHOOLS
UNIVERSITY OF HOLY CROSS (UHC) offers three camps for youth this summer. The Energy Venture Camp, June 27-July 1, is open to seventh through 12th graders who will build working solar panels from scratch and explore bioengineering in virtual reality. UHC co-sponsors the camp with Shell Oil and LA STEM. For students in kindergarten through 12th grades, there’s the 2022 Astro Camp, July 11-15. UHC hosts this camp with NASA and LA STEM for campers to build working robots, a lunar colony, explore the surface of Mars in virtual reality. The Urban Ecology Camp, July 18-22, will feature designing and building a butterfly wall, performing ecologic field research, growing mealworms in DIY compost and more.
