FREE RECITAL, violinist Joseph Meyer performs May 28, 6 p.m., in a free recital at St. Mary’s Chapel (Old Ursuline Convent), 1116 Chartres St., New Orleans. His program features Partitas II, III and Sonata I of Johann Sebastian Bach. Nearly 300 years old, it is still considered one of the greatest works for solo violin. Also included on the program is Bela Bartok’s “Tempo di Ciaccona” from his Sonata for Solo Violin. Meyer is an active soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader who has been garnering critical acclaim throughout the country. He holds positions as associate concertmaster of the Charlotte Symphony and the Colorado Music Festival, as well as guest concertmaster of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and is on the faculty of Davidson College in North Carolina. A free will donation will be taken at this recital for the purchase of a Steinway Piano for St. Mary’s Chapel and the restoration of the chapel’s historic Pilcher pipe organ.

SUMMER THEOLOGY COURSES, from Office of Religious Education, beginning June 3-July 15, various locations around the archdiocese. Each course is 10 hours, from eight basic level subjects on Monday through Thursday for 2 ½ hours each class or two five-hour classes on consecutive Saturdays. Courses are: $10. Catholic school teachers, Parish School of Religion catechists and catechetical leaders will receive basic certification credit upon completion, but it’s open to everyone. CCRNO Youth Ministry, Golden Jubilee Pentecost Sunday Celebration, June 4, 7-9:30 p.m. in the Raider Room of Archbishop Rummel High School, 1901 Severn Ave., Metairie.
