CABRINI HIGH SCHOOL, Nadine Pizer was named 2014 Cabrini Alumna of the Year and presented a special Mother Cabrini medal from the Cabrini shrine in New York. She teaches religion at Cabrini and has introduced several service and social justice programs to the school, serving as the No Place for Hate Club moderator and an active member of the New Orleans Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. Pizer is a Fair Trade ambassador and was instrumental in Cabrini becoming a Catholic Relief Service Partner School and initiated the sale of fair trade items at Cabrini and collaborated with a local coffee shop to provide fair trade coffee to students during exam days. She helped create the annual Global Solidarity Week at Cabrini and has coordinated religion students to prepare and serve lunch to the poor at St. Joseph Rebuild Center for the several years. She is also a volunteer at St. Jude Community Center as a part of Cabrini’s Feed the Poor Programy. In 2010, she was selected to attend the Rudin Family Bearing Witness Advanced Summer Program in Israel for Catholic school educators.
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS, three mass communication graduates were inducted in the Mass Communication Den of Distinction May 9. Russell H. Myerson ’76, Veronique Niles Spruill ’80, and Reid I. Steinberg ’94, were recognized for a lifetime of accomplishments. Myerson is executive vice president of affiliate relations and technology for The CW Television Network. He has worked in communication sales, programming, marketing, distribution, production, finance, technology and spearheaded the 1997 launch of “The WB Television Network,” and the Game Show Network in 1994. He is former chairman and CEO of NATPE International. Spruill is president and CEO of the Council on Foundations, a national nonprofit of philanthropic organizations and corporations; served as president and CEO of the Ocean Conservancy and founded and led SeaWeb, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing ocean issues. She had a 15-year career in public relations, including five years as senior vice president of Ruder Finn. At Loyola she studied communications and religious studies. She received a master’s in communications from the University of West Florida. Steinberg is senior vice president and media director at ICON International, Inc., a company specializing in corporate barter that is part of the Omnicom Group. He is a member of the Association of National Advertisers. Steinberg, a member of the class of 1994, studied marketing and advertising at Loyola. He was a member of the first Loyola Ad Team to advance to the finals of the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition.
