BROTHER MARTIN, 27th annual Brother More Schaefer Recognition Ceremony and Luncheon honored Christopher Biehl for excellence in instruction, formation and witness, the charism of Brothers of Sacred Heart founder Father Andre Coindre. Biehl, a 26-year teacher, is head basketball coach, advanced math teacher and formation center proctor at Brother Martin. He has a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education and a master’s in curriculum and instruction from University of New Orleans. “Receiving the Brother More Schaefer Award has been the greatest honor of my professional career,” Biehl said. “The fact that was I nominated by my peers and selected by the committee is overwhelming considering the fact that I am surrounded by so many great educators.” Other faculty recognized for years of service were Carroll Bourlet ’65 (Cor Jesu), Kenny Spellman ’84, Deborah Broussard (2012 Brother More Schaefer Faculty Award recipient), Tina LaBeaud, Peter Valiente ’79, and Cathy Duran for 20 years; Amelie Levis and Tony Melito ’76, for 30 years; and John Devlin and Mary Picou for 40 years of service at Brother Martin.
ANNUNCIATION CATHOLIC SCHOOL, technology coordinator Derik Thompson was selected as the Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators (LACUE) State Leader of the Year for pushing the boundaries of education through integration of technology schoolwide with 1:1 BYOC Chromebooks, 3D printing and coding. “I am beyond words,” Thompson said. “I was honored to win regional, but winning state is truly a blessing.”
