END HUMAN TRAFFICKING NOVENA, the Archdiocese of New Orleans is asking everyone to participate in this novena Feb. 9-17. For daily email reminders to pray along, please visit https://nolacatholic.org/novena-to-end-human-trafficking. As a corporal work of mercy, one can also help the Free Indeed Home (safe house for girls ages 12-17 who have been victims of sex trafficking) with the items on their current wish list, which include a vacuum cleaner, hair dryers, copy paper, bike helmets, Walmart, Rouses and Winn Dixie gift cards, light bulbs (especially ceiling insert bulbs), garbage bags, brooms, mops. What’s also needed are foods that can be packed into lunches for the girls when they are traveling to medical appointments and educational requirements such as non-refrigerated individual lunches, individual fruit/pudding cups, any snacks that can be packed in the lunches. For churches/groups on the Northshore who want to donate, these items are needed: dairy products, meats (especially hamburger, chicken, meats, lunch meats), bread, butter, eggs, milk and cheese. DAYS OF PRAYER, Feb. 19, “Balance in Our Busy Lives” with Sister of St. Joseph Janet Franklin. $35; and Feb. 27, conducted by Msgr. Doug Doussan. Inspired by a Salt + Light Media film highlighting the story of the Catholic Committee of Appalachia that has been listening to the cries of the poor and the earth since 1970. 72nd IRISH CHANNEL ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE, March 16, 1 p.m. Free music, entertainment; food and beverages are for purchase. Beneftting St. Michael School. The parade follows a noon Mass at St. Mary’s Assumption Church. New 2019 parade route begins on Magazine Street, to Jackson Avenue, to St. Charles Avenue, to Louisiana Avenue back to Magazine Street and ending after a turn riverbound on Jackson Avenue. Normand Ryan, a former Archbishop Rummel High coach, is this year’s grand marshal. Queen is Meagan Kelly, a Haynes Academy student. LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS, Dr. Sarah Kelly has been named senior vice president, providing leadership over all aspects of student life, from recruitment and admissions through graduation. Kelly has served as the vice president for enrollment and marketing at St. Michael’s College in Vermont. She led an impressive recruitment program at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and served as the associate vice president of student affairs at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, for almost 10 years. Kelly will join Loyola in early spring.
