St. Tammany Art Association, opening reception for “Hand of the Master,” an exhibit of art from Benedictine monk Dom Gregory de Wit, Dec. 14, 6-9 p.m. St. Joseph Abbey Seminary Choir will sing Christmas carols. The exhibit will run until Jan. 25. Fifteen of de Wit’s works are on loan from St. Joseph Abbey and others from collectors. (The majority of his art lives on the walls and ceilings of St. Joseph Abbey.) de Wit was born in The Netherlands in 1892 and was inspired by Italian Byzantine mosaics. de Wit expert/archivist panel discussion Jan. 18, 2020, 1-3 p.m., with Edward Begnaud, a historian/author who explores de Wit’s work at St. Joseph Abbey in “Living in Salvation”; author and art historian, Father Aelred Kavanaugh; and Mary Lee Eggart, artist, historian/archivist at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Baton Rouge, home to de Wit murals including the massive “Victorious Christ” that dominates the dome of the apse. The exhibit is in the main Miriam Barranger Gallery, 320 N. Columbia Street, Covington. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
