EUCHARISTIC BOAT PROCESSION, up Vermilion River, celebrating 100th anniversary of Diocese of Lafayette, Aug. 15, with a Mass in French celebrated and homily given by Bishop Glen Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles at 8 a.m., St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Abbeville. A procession with the Blessed Sacrament and a statue of Mary follows Mass across the draw bridge to Riverfront Restaurant, 503 W. Port St. At 10 a.m., 121 boats (one for each parish of the diocese) will make their way up Bayou Vermilion to Lafayette, stopping at Milton at Wawee’s at 11:35 a.m. for recitation of the rosary and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament; continuing at 12:35 p.m. upstream to Ruffino’s in River Ranch at 1:40 p.m. for rosary and benediction and embarking again at 2:40 p.m. at Beaver Park about 3:20 p.m. Those interested in making a “100-Year Walk” to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist can gather at 3 p.m. in Vermilionville and use the bike path under the Thruway to muster at the boat landing. The foot procession with the Blessed Sacrament and a statue of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will leave the landing at 3:45 p.m. and travel University Avenue in Lafayette to the cathedral where solemn vespers will be prayed at 5 p.m., followed by Mass at 5:30 p.m. with Bishop Douglas Deshotel. Buses will be available to shuttle walkers back to Vermilionville; confessions will be heard in mobile units at each stop along the way. KUDOS

ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON, Home and School Association new 2018-19 executive board: Angela Gorman and Jamee Meisner, co-presidents; Stacy Woodward vice president; Michelle Conaway, secretary; Cristina Bordelon, treasurer; and immediate past presidents Dayna Toscano and Melinda Orellana. 

CURTIS WRIGHT, dean of campus life and chief diversity officer at Wagner College, will become Xavier University of Louisiana’s vice president of Student Services. At Wagner, he was dean of Campus Life and Leadership, associate dean of Campus Life and director of the Office of Co-Curricular Programs. Wright also served at New York University and at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He hopes to expand student perspectives, promote opportunities to learn outside the classroom and expose students to experiences to shape them into tomorrow’s leaders. Wright will officially join Xavier Aug. 1.

GARRET ORGERON JR. was presented the St. Rosalie Men’s Club Service Award May 20 for his service to his school, church, parish and community. He is a graduate of St. Rosalie School and will advance to a Catholic high school, Jesuit, in the fall.
