T-shirts designed by Locks of Love recipient Mary Grace: $10 or free if 10 or more inches of hair cut. Locks of Love, a public, non-profit organization provides vacuum-fitted hairpieces to disadvantaged children ages 6-21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. New hairpieces are provided every 18 months. Each hairpiece requires four to six months to manufacture and is made from up to 10 ponytails donated. WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016, a 10-day trip to Krakow, Poland, for celebrations, catechesis, candlelight vigil and liturgy with Pope Francis. Trip is being planned by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry (CYO), in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. It is open to young adults (at least 18 years old by July 22, 2016). Side trips will be made to Auschwitz concentration camp and Wadowice, the birthplace of St. John Paul II. KUDOS
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS INSTITUTE FOR MINISTRY, and its distance-learning extension program, LIMEX, received on May 21 the Catechetical Award, the highest award from the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership for its contribution to religious education and its graduates’ success in becoming leaders in the church’s catechetical ministry locally and worldwide.
ST. AUGUSTINE HIGH, Dean Baquet, a 1974 St. Augustine graduate and Pulitzer Prize winner, was named executive editor of the New York Times, one of the most prestigious jobs in journalism. Baquet is the first African-American to serve in The New York Times’ top position; he was the first African-American to lead a top U.S. newspaper when named editor of the Los Angeles Times in 2005. While attending St. Augustine, Baquet was an active contributor to the school newspaper, The Knight.
