CHRISTIAN BROTHERS SCHOOL (CBS), Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, the 17th chancellor of the University of Mississippi, was named the 2017 Alumnus of the Year by the Christian Brothers School Alumni Association. Vitter, a native of New Orleans, was valedictorian of his eighth-grade class at CBS in 1969. Also, Joseph A. Taranto and his late wife Charlene Souquet Taranto are recipients of the 2017 St. Benilde Award by the association for their years of service to the Christian Brothers School community. They helped co-found the “Magic in the Park” annual gala in 1995. The awards were presented at the CBS campus in City Park on April 7.
