Students from Cabrini High School recently participated in the Big Read Master Class at the Algiers Regional Library.
The Big Read is sponsored by the Faulkner Society of New Orleans through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and in connection with the Faulkner Society’s Words and Music Festival held each November.
Students from Michelle Fortier’s creative writing class gathered with public and private school students from across the New Orleans metropolitan area to engage in discussion about this year’s book, “Sun, Stone and Shadows,” a collection of 20 contemporary Mexican short stories.
American humorist and author Roy Blount Jr. and Mexican author Jorge Hernandez, who also edited the short story collection that students read for this year’s Big Read, were among the guest speakers at the master class.
