Generosity toward others from Cabrini students and staff was on full display during the November and December “season of giving.”
Enough socks and donations were raised by the New Orleans school’s National Honor Society-led “Sock-ember” Dec. 8-15 to purchase 696 pairs of socks for men, women and children at Covenant House New Orleans. Students celebrated during the drive with a Crazy Christmas Sock Day.
The freshman class donated the most socks, and, to celebrate, they had fun building a Christmas tree with their numerous sock donations.
The socks were delivered before Christmas to Covenant House by National Honor Society officers. These socks ensured that homeless teens and teens in crisis are kept warm during the winter months.
Another Christmas effort that the school’s campus ministry coordinated with Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans was “Adopt a Family,” which fulfilled the wish lists of three local families in need.
Religion classes donated to two families, and the faculty and staff sponsored the remaining family. All items on these families’ wish lists were bought and donated to make sure that they had a “Merry Christmas.”
Campus ministry said the families mainly asked for practical things such as clothing, kitchen/cooking supplies and toys for young children.
In November, Cabrini High School’s National Honor Society and the campus ministry team also partnered to host the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Approximately 250 pounds of food products were donated to the food pantry at St. Anthony of Padua Church in New Orleans to feed the hungry in the community.
Giving to needy families during these uncertain times by “sharing what you can” fulfills one of the school’s core values – service.
