Cabrini High School students have helped fight human trafficking since 2014 by participating in Dressember, a national collaborative movement that uses fashion to advocate for women who have been exploited for their femininity.
Dressember brings dignity, fashion, modesty and femininity – words that guide all Cabrini functions – to the forefront. Students who donated $1 could show their sense of fashion and dress down. The recent event raised $230 for Eden House, a house for female survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. Over five years, $2,000 has been raised.
Founded by Mother Cabrini, who founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cabrini supports the rights and dignity of all immigrants” and also works to “stop human trafficking.” This is the driving force behind the school’s efforts to fight human trafficking.
Prior to Dressember, students were educated about human trafficking and slavery, and prayed as a community to end this crime against humanity. Discussion followed the event in religion classes, and the school prayed for the victims of trafficking in January, which is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention month.
