On Monday, August 14th, five members of the Cabrini High School faculty who attended the Cabrini Educator Institute, an institute where Cabrini educators from New Orleans, Pennsylvania, Argentina and Spain gathered together to grow as a Cabrinian educator, presented personal reflections, along with the globe they received from the Institute to the school.
Vivian Coutin, Ann Smart, Cristen Watters, Tiffany Matherne, and Maureen Walsh took turns explaining to the Cabrini High School student body what the Cabrini Educator Institute is and what it meant to them to attend. It was evident through their speeches the amount of passion and love they have for the Institute and the experiences they shared.
“The life changing experience is to be able to put a face with the institutions we had only heard about and to realize the magnitude of Mother Cabrini’s work throughout the world,” said Coutin. “A highlight for us was learning that a song taught in our Spanish classes is also sung at Cabrini schools in Argentina. We sang this hymn to Mother Cabrini as a united community at the conclusion of the institute. This was invigorating and a wonderful demonstration of the love and passion that Cabrinian educators share from all parts of the world.”
At the closing ceremony of the Institute this summer, the Cabrini educators were commissioned to pass on the knowledge gained and unity felt to their individual schools. Each school was given a globe signed by all participants to remind them that the work of Mother Cabrini is global and that her charism unites them.Photo:
After each teacher shared their stories, together they presented the globe they received at the Institute to the President, Principal, and Student Council Executive Board as a gift and a reminder that Cabrini is bigger than just Cabrini High School in New Orleans and is a sacred bond they share with numerous others around the world.
