Dominican Brother Roger A. Shondel, a member of the Southern Dominican Province of St. Martin
DePorres, is celebrating his 50th anniversary of religious profession of vows as a Dominican friar.
Assigned to St. Dominic Priory, he serves as sub-prior and syndic for his Dominican friars community and has been on the faculty of St. Mary’s Dominican High School as a guidance counselor for the past 31 years.
Brother Roger, a native of Hammond, Indiana, entered the Dominican novitiate in River Forest, Illinois, in 1963.
Throughout his years as a Dominican friar, Brother Roger has served in a variety of apostolic ministries throughout Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Florida, Texas and Louisiana.
In the spirit of His Holiness Pope Francis, he will celebrate with a private Mass of Thanksgiving with his religious Dominican community.
