Two all-girls’ day camps and three girls-only sports camps are on tap this summer at Archbishop Chapelle High School’s Metairie campus at 8800 Veterans Memorial Blvd.
The day camps, which run June 1-26, are designed for two age divisions:
“Acorn Camp” – named in honor of Chapelle’s chipmunk mascot – is open to girls entering grades 1-3. A changing daily theme inspires each day’s educational, recreational and artistic endeavors, said Emily Radcliffe, camp director and Chapelle’s director of admissions.
“For example, if we’re focusing on animals that day, we will have a small petting zoo come in; if it’s (international day), our campers will learn trivia facts from around the world,” Radcliffe explained. “Every day is different. We keep them on campus the entire time. On water days, we might also be learning about deep-sea animals, and they will work on a related art project. In the afternoon, they’ll play on inflatables and play with water balloons.”
Chapelle Summer Camp provides fun for girls entering grades 4-7. Each week will have an overarching theme with a Chapelle twist. This summer, the “Chipmunk” campers will set out for the “Wild West,” the jungle, “Vacation Fun” and a trip across the USA.
Campers can customize their camp experience by choosing from an array of special-interest camps, such as baking, dance/cheer, arts and crafts and sports-challenge.
“We also have offerings that are science-focused and musical theater-focused,” Radcliffe said. “We bring all the campers together in the middle of the day for bonding and spirit activities, but each camper has her own individual schedule.”
Camp tuition is $160 per week, and the one-time registration fee is $30 per camper. The camp day runs from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., with complimentary before-care available beginning at 7:30 a.m. After-care is also available through 5:30 p.m. for a weekly charge of $40 (prepaid) or $10 per day. Camp counselors are Chapelle teachers and alumnae, assisted by current Chapelle students.
During the week of May 26-29, Chapelle’s award-winning coaches and student-athletes will conduct sports-specific camps in basketball, volleyball and softball for girls entering grades 3-7.
The morning session (9 a.m.-noon) offers campers a choice of basketball or softball; and the afternoon session (12:30-3:30 p.m.) is a volleyball camp. The cost is $75 per session or $140 for both sessions. There is no registration fee for sports camp.
