Nine volleyball teams from schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans punched their ticket to compete in the quarterfinal round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA state tournamant, which begins on Nov. 10.
Unfortunately, two will leave Kenner’s Pontchartrain Center disappointed that day.
Two matches pit local Catholic schools against each other.
A Division II match will send No. 3 seed St. Scholastica against No. 11 Cabrini at 4:20 p.m. The winner moves on to probably face No. 2 Assumption, while the loser will be eliminated.
Archbishop Chapelle, the No. 8 seed in Division I, will meet district rival and the defending state champion, Mount Carmel, for the third time this year at 8 p.m. Mount Carmel is the No. 1 seed.
The 2015 Division IV champion, Pope John Paul II, returns as a No. 1 seed and will oppose No. 9 Dunham at 10:50 a.m.
Last year, the Lady Jaguars defeated district foe Archbishop Hannan in the championship match. Hannan returns as the No. 2 seed and will meet No. 7 Notre Dame at 9 a.m.
Division III runner-up and past champion Ursuline Academy is the No. 3 seed and is scheduled to meet No. 6 Brusly at 2:30 p.m.
As a No. 4 seed in Division II, Academy of Our Lady will take on No. 5 South Terrebonne in a 4:20 p.m. match. The winner will then face No. 1 St. Thomas More on Nov. 11
The Academy of the Sacred Heart is the No. 6 seed in Division IV and will play No. 3 Riverside at 9 a.m. on opening day.
