St. Scholastica Academy senior Allison Ducote recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. Open only to girls in high school, the Girl Scout Gold Award challenges girls to change the world, while being eligible for college scholarships. Ducote’s project was entitled “Save Our Camps” and was a two-year endeavor. During this seven-step project, she worked with an estimated 160 children – current Scouts and non-Scouts – teaching them the importance of camping skills such as erecting a tent, folding a sleeping bag and creating healthy feeders for birds. Since 1980, the Gold Award has inspired girls to find the greatness inside themselves and share their ideas and passions with their communities.
