Since the retirement of Archbishop Rummel athletic director Phil Greco and the subsequent resignation of head football coach Jay Roth to become the school’s AD on a full-time basis, the athletic department has become an office of musical chairs.
In past weeks, Roth named Nick Monica, who had served as the Raiders’ defensive coordinator and head baseball coach, the school’s head football coach.
In April, former Brother Martin head basketball coach Scott Thompson replaced Troy Holley as the Raiders’ head basketball coach when Holley was moved into the assistant athletic director position.
And the latest move came on Feb. 1 when Frank Cazeaux, who served as Rummel’s head baseball coach from 1994-2006 and won a Class 5A state championship in 1997, returned to his alma mater to take over the head baseball coaching duties at the end of the school year.
Over his 22 years coaching at four schools, Cazeaux has compiled a 618-219 record.
Monica will remain the head baseball coach through the 2019 prep season.
