Sister Marie Celine of Our Lady, Handmaid of the Lord, took another major step in religious life recently with the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration at Mother Angelica’s Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Ala. The daughter of Lisa and Kenneth Schmidt, Sister Marie Celine received the habit of her religious community. She attended St. Pius X School in New Orleans before her family relocated to the Lafayette area. “I desire to spend my life at the feet of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament,” she said. During the ceremony, the scriptural readings convey the new sister’s desire to renounce the world and embrace God’s will. As a symbol of detachment from the world, self and vanity, she is shorn of her hair and dons the habit.
