Louisiana’s oldest continuously running high school basketball tournament, the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Classic, has openings for two more
teams for its 2014 event.
Among the field of 13 teams for the Dec. 3-6 tournament are mainstays Brother Martin, Holy Cross, Jesuit, St. Augustine and Archbishops Rummel and Shaw; St. Paul’s, Archbishop Hannan, De La Salle, East St. John, Hahnville, St. Thomas Aquinas and first-year invitee John Curtis.
Tournament director Armand Bertin said that champion East Jefferson will not defend its 2013 title, gained by beating Brother Martin, 55-45, in the championship game. Country Day and Lusher Charter also opted out of the tournament field, leaving openings for two more competitors.
Teams are guaranteed two games in this double-elimination tournament, open to Catholic, public, charter and private schools.
The CYO contacts are Bertin at [email protected] or Cecilia Matherne (504) 836-0551.
