One hundred thirty-four students from St. Scholastica Academy received diplomas May 19 from principal Mary Kathryn Villere in the Msgr. Joseph Chotin Center at Our Lady of the Lake Church, marking the school’s 109th graduation. Legionaries of Christ Father Joseph Gillespie celebrated Graduation Mass.
The Class of 2012 received more than $5.1 million in scholarship offers and was accepted to 77 different universities and colleges in the U.S. and Canada.
The three valedictorians were Monica E. Bravo, Sophia N. Courcelle and Elizabeth C. Kuebel.
Bravo, daughter of Mary and Clint Bravo of Covington, will attend Louisiana State University and major in engineering. She received the LSU Academic Scholars Resident Award. Bravo also received scholarship offers from Auburn University and the University of Alabama.
Bravo was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Excalibur Science Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. She also served as editor of the health section for the Newspaper Club, freshman class president, sophomore homeroom officer and Spanish Club vice president.
Courcelle, daughter of Gina and Dr. Reiss Plauche of Covington, will attend Tulane University and major in business. She received the Tulane University Academic Merit Scholarship. Courcelle also received scholarship offers from Louisiana State University and the University of Georgia.
Courcelle was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Excalibur Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (vice president), Color Guard (sergeant major), Key Club, Latin Club, Student Council, Spanish Club and served as a student minister. She also participated in Habitat for Humanity, HOBY 2010, swim team, and track and field, and served as vice president of her senior and junior class.
Kuebel, daughter of Judi and Dr. Donald Kuebel of Mandeville, will attend the University of Georgia and major in biology/pre-med. She received the University of Georgia Presidential Leadership Scholarship and UGA Regents Wavier. Kuebel also received scholarship offers from Auburn University, the College of Charleston, Loyola University New Orleans, Louisiana State University, Tulane University and the University of Alabama.
Kuebel was a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Excalibur Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Junior National Honor Society, Key Club, Science Club and served as Spanish Club president and a student minister. Kuebel was a Furman Scholar, a Literary Rally participant for Biology Honors and World Geography and a National Youth Leadership Program on Medicine participant.
