St. Tammany Art Association, opening reception for “Hand of the Master,” an exhibit of art from Benedictine monk Dom Gregory de Wit, Dec. 14, 6-9 p.m. St. Joseph Abbey Seminary Choir will sing Christmas carols. The  exhibit will run until Jan. 25. Fifteen of de Wit’s works are on loan from St. Joseph Abbey and others from collectors. (The majority of his art lives on the walls and ceilings of St. Joseph Abbey.) de Wit was  born in The Netherlands in 1892 and was inspired by Italian Byzantine mosaics. de Wit expert/archivist panel discussion  Jan. 18, 2020, 1-3 p.m., with Edward Begnaud, a historian/author who explores de Wit’s work at St. Joseph Abbey in “Living in Salvation”; author and art historian, Father Aelred Kavanaugh; and Mary Lee Eggart, artist, historian/archivist at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Baton Rouge, home to de Wit murals including the massive “Victorious Christ” that dominates the dome of the apse. The exhibit is in the main Miriam Barranger Gallery, 320 N. Columbia Street, Covington. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

STS. PETER and PAUL CHURCH, Advent mission, Dec. 16-19, 7 p.m. nightly, “Winter Lent  – Make Ready O’ Bethlehem” with Father Damian Zablocki. On Dec. 19, an Advent Mission concert experience by The Vigil Project featuring John Finch Jr., a vocalist, songwriter and parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Features Mass, dynamic speakers, confessions, live music, authentic prayer. Also, Bambinelli blessing at all Masses on the weekend of Dec. 14-15. Father Travis Clark invites everyone to bring their baby Jesus from their home Nativity set to be blessed at any weekend Mass. EVENING OF HEALING AND SONG, Dec. 20, 7-8 p.m. for the intercession of the Holy Family to pray for our own family during Advent, for physical healing and mental and spiritual healing for any brokenness families might be experiencing. OPERA CREOLE, featuring Metropolitan Opera baritone Richard Hobson with Voices of Peter Claver directed by Veronica Downs-Dorsey in “Believing Without Seeing,” Dec. 29, 5 p.m. St. Francis Xavier Seelos Church, 3037 Dauphine St., New Orleans. This concert examines and celebrates the men and women who were enslaved and who passed on the faith through songs of emancipation, Christmas sacred music, gospel and American spirituals.
