How good was Cabrini’s volleyball squad, winners of the Division III state championship?
Consider that the Crescents defeated 11 teams that qualified for the state tournament, including three division champions, and that’s all that needs to be said about the caliber of talent assembled by head coach Kasey Dennies.
Cabrini posted a 36-4 record, which included regular-season wins over six-time Division I champion Mount Carmel (twice), Division IV winner Pope John Paul II and Division V champ Country Day.
In a city that is blessed with outstanding volleyball coaches, Dennies earned her accolade as the Clarion Herald Elite Team’s Coach of the Year. She is also the first to have been named the Elite Team’s Most Outstanding Player in 2007 and Coach of the Year.
The honor of being the team’s best player of the 2019 season is Cabrini senior Kai Williams, whose power and grace of movement on the court made her the best of an outstanding crop of Elite Team honorees.
Senior Ansley Tullis of Pope John Paul II is being recognized for the third consecutive year as an Elite player, while teammate Kendall Battistella and Mount Carmel’s Emily Meyer are also repeat selections.
