The annual Red Mass, dedicated to prayer for judges, lawyers and all those in the legal profession, will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Cathedral.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond will be the principal celebrant, and Benedictine Abbot Justin Brown of St. Joseph Abbey will be the homilist.
The Red Mass was first celebrated in the United States in 1928 at old St. Andrew’s Church in New York City. Its celebration later spread to Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
In additional to Catholic lawyers and judges, Protestant and Jewish members of the judiciary and the legal profession are invited to attend the Mass.
