Prayer cards made by hands, hearts of local children

Since 2010, the archdiocese’s Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) Office has held a contest inviting local children in grades pre-kindergarten through 7 to submit original mission-related prayers and a corresponding artwork. The winning entries are turned into prayer cards used by the MCA throughout the year. “We are always telling the kids that prayer is the way everyone can be a missionary,” said Laura Arand, MCA director. “You can pray at home, right where you are!” The submissions of this year’s winners are re-printed here. The theme of the contest was “Voices in Mission: Celebrating 175 Years,” in honor of the MCA’s 175th anniversary.

O God, Help us to make a change in the world when it is hard. We need your help to be voices in mission. When we are afraid, we fail our mission. By your light, lead us towards you. At this time and place. Amen.

Jesus Our Savior, God our Father put you on this earth to save us, your children. You were crucified, buried and resurrected for us. Please give us, God’s children, the continued faith to open hearts, minds and eyes to always be kind and love one another. Help us to always remember we are all God’s children. Amen.
