Three Marianites of Holy Cross will celebrate jubilees of 70 years of religious profession April 27 with a 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Rita Church in New Orleans. The jubilarians are Sister Myra Banquer, Sister Clarita Bourque and Sister Mary Kelly.
Sister Myra, a native of Westwego, served as principal in several schools and was superintendent of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lafayette. She served in congregational leadership. Sister Myra is part of the pastoral team at Chateau de Notre Dame and brings Communion to residents.
Sister Clarita, a native of Algiers, has had a long-time interest in community organizing and service to the poor. She served at Hope House and then opened Lindy’s Place, a halfway house for women. This past year, Sister Clarita offered monthly classes on the tricentennial of the city of New Orleans. She is co-editor of The Marianite Magazine.
After years of teaching in elementary schools, Sister Mary has served in pastoral care at Chateau de Notre Dame for more than 38 years. She visits with residents and their families, is an extraordinary minister of holy Communion and offers a prayerful presence to the dying.
