On March 1, the choirs from Christian Brothers’ Canal Street campus and St. Rita Elementary School in New Orleans convened inside St. Anthony of Padua Church to sing at Christian Brothers’ school Mass. The combined choir practiced and performed under the direction of Devin Boucree, St. Rita School’s music director. “If you want to clap your hands, clap your hands! If you feel the spirit, dance with us!” Boucree told congregants before launching into the gathering hymn, “This Little Light of Mine.” Christian Brothers’ Falcon Choir is directed by Dora Malkinska, the school’s music teacher.

Crystal Morgan, Christian Brothers’ development director, said her school is committed to fostering relationships with other Catholic schools to enhance students’ cultural experiences. Morgan knows Boucree from her church parish of St. Rita and suggested the idea of the two choirs’ blending voices. “I am always thinking of ways to develop partnerships and ways to fellowship with partners,” Morgan said.
