St. Katharine Drexel Prep and the Academy of the Sacred Heart served notice that they intend to repeat as the state’s outdoor track and field champions in the spring by sharing the girls’ Division II first-place award at the LHSAA State Indoor Track and Field meet on Feb. 16 at LSU.
Sacred Heart, the reigning Class 3A outdoor champion, and Drexel Prep, the 2018 Class 2A titlist, each scored 50 points.
Brother Martin, led by Hunter Appleton’s second-place finishes in the 1,600- and 3,200- meter runs, finished fourth in the boys’ Division I team events, and Timothy Cola’s victory in the boys’ 60-meter hurdles gave St. Augustine all its points in a 15th-place finish.
Individual standouts were Alia Armstrong of SKDP, who won the 60-meter hurdles and placed second in the 60-meter dash; Sacred Heart’s Mary Nusloch, the cross country champion, who finished second in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs; and Drexel Prep’s Kayli Johnson, third in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles.
Drexel Prep also won the 4×400-meter relay and finished third in the 4×200-meter relay, and Sacred Heart won the gold medal in the 4×800-meter relay.
De La Salle’s Leah Kennedy placed second in the girls’ shotput, and Sacred Heart’s Mykhala Coleman took third in that event.
