FREE TAX PREPARATION, from University of Holy Cross (UHC) tax accounting students for low-to-moderate income New Orleanians on Fridays and Saturdays through April 13 (except March 8-9) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. In conjunction with the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). 4123 Woodland Drive, Room 1034, Algiers campus. Bring the following: proof of identification; Social Security cards for the individual, spouse and any dependents; birth dates for the individual, spouse and any dependents on the tax return; current year’s tax package (if one was received); wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R from all employers; interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099); copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax identification number (the provider’s Social Security number or the provider’s business Identification Number). If filing a married joint return, both spouses must be present. These students have received training and are certified for basic tax returns. ST. JOSEPH ABBEY CONCERT, international award-winning organist Emmanuel Culcasi will perform at a free concert Feb. 17, 3 p.m., St. Joseph Abbey Church. Culcasi is currently the Young-Artist-in-Residence at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. 

NOTRE DAME SEMINARY, Father Maximos Constans, senior research scholar at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, presents, “Maximus the Confessor: A Bridge Between the Churches,” as part of the annual Dathel and John D. OPIOID COMMUNITY FORUM, Feb. 28, ”You’re Not Alone,” with Archbishop Gregory Aymond and other speakers followed by a question-and-answer session. Doors open at 6 p.m.; speakers from 6:30-8:30 p.m. St. Angela Merici Gym, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, Metairie. Additional speakers: Dr. Kenison Roy, Avenues Recovery, discussing the brain disease of addiction; John Antonucci with Longbranch Healthcare, addressing how addiction affects families; Kevin Gardere from Bridge House will share his experience with addiction; Deacon Louis Bauer will share how the church has responded to the addiction epidemic through the Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM). Thirty resource tables with information about addiction treatment facilities, sober living houses, 12-step groups, interventionists, counselors, National Alliance on Mental Illness. OUTDOOR WAY OF THE CROSS, March 9, 11 a.m., St. Edward the Confessor parish grounds, 4921 West Metairie Ave. at Transcontinental, Metairie. Participants will carry a full-size cross, stop at each station to meditate, then plant the cross in front of the church. St. Edward also will hold a parish mission March 11-13, “Given Up for You,” presented by Brian Butler and Greg Moudreaux of Dumb Ox Ministries. Lenten fish fries are scheduled: March 15 and 29.
