To: Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Archdiocese
of New Orleans
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
It is our archdiocesan tradition to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, better known as confession, on a weekday evening near the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. I am pleased to inform you that many people in the Archdiocese of New Orleans have taken advantage of this opportunity and the priests have decided to continue this practice.
This year confessions will be available in all Catholic churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to invite the healing Christ into your heart with his promise of mercy.
Pope Francis, in talking about our weakness and sin, said, “Jesus does not want to beat us and condemn us. He gave his life for us. … He is always looking for a way to get to the heart. … There is forgiveness.”
Please consider having your family come to church together for confession on Wednesday, September 12.
Wishing you God’s blessings, I am
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond
Archbishop of New Orleans
