KEEP YOUR KIDNEYS HEALTHY SCREENING, Sept. 15, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd., Marrero. Free screening provided by National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana (NKFL). Identifies individuals at risk for kidney diseases, recommends  doctor follow up. Screening includes blood pressure, weight, BMI (body mass index), urinalysis and a blood draw. Physician on-site to discuss risk factors, test results. Light refreshments. FRIENDS OF THE POOR WALK
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold its 2018 Friends of the Poor Walk at two locations Sept. 29.
The New Orleans walk opens registration at 8 a.m., followed by an 8:45 a.m. warm up and one-mile walk at the Reunion Shelter in City Park, Wisner Boulevard at Friedrichs Avenue near Christian Brothers School. Free T-shirts and refreshments. Archbishop Emeritus Alfred Hughes will give the opening prayer and serve food. Pledged donations benefit local SVDP councils and conferences helping the needy in the Greater Metropolitan New Orleans area. 831-8809; snormansandy@gmail.com. The Northshore walk: St. Tammany Washington District of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul walk is at the Mandeville Lakefront (Jackson Street across from Yacht Club).
