MOST HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, continuing series on Catholic Social Thought,  Aug. 6, Father José Lavastida, STD, pastor of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, will speak on the “Dignity of Life: From Conception to Natural Death. “ The talk will be held at Most Holy Trinity Church Family Life Center. A light dinner will be served starting at 6:45 p.m., and the talk will begin at 7:15 p.m. There is no cost. ABBEY ART WORKS, four-day Artist’s Retreat, for artistic development of artists of all skill levels, Aug. 20-24, Abbey Art Works. Cost: $750 ($700 for Guild of St. Luke members) includes accommodations, meals in renovated Christian Life Center. No formal painting instruction given, but daily open studio time with Louisiana artist Billie Bourgeois, an instructor at Abbey Art Works who has 30 years’ experience in art, available. ALPHA IN A CATHOLIC CONTEXT, 12-week course, Sept. 4-Nov. 20, sponsored by Ascension of Our Lord and St. Joan of Arc churches in LaPlace and St. Peter Church in Reserve. Alpha offers a closer personal relationship with Jesus through video presentations that discuss his life, death and resurrection and additional videos on the Holy Spirit. Each weekly session includes a meal, a video presentation and a small group discussion of the video in a friendly environment open to questions and opinions. No commitment to attend presentations. WALK TO FIGHT SUICIDE, “Out of the Darkness Walk: New Orleans,” Sept. 8, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.; walk at 10 a.m. Shelter 2 on Lakeshore Drive. Celebrant: Father Keith Pellerin, pastor of St. Philip Neri Church in Kinder, Louisiana. The rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. A reception will follow Mass.
